In just a few days, we will be bidding 2017 adieu and are welcoming 2018 with a bang. If you’re up for a spectacular fireworks display on New Year’s Eve, then fill-up the picnic basket, bring everyone at home along and head to South Bank Parklands where the fun is. But if picnic is not your thing, yummy food trucks and stalls will be available around the South Bank area that would offer grab-and-go food like hot chips, burgers, hot dogs, ice-creams and more. Sit-down dinners are also available with many restaurants open to serve. Portable toilets will be located at the Cultural Forecourt and next to Tribune Street alongside permanent toilets situated across the Parklands.

The usual public transport such buses, trains and ferries are operational on New Year’s Eve. However, since this is one of the biggest celebration in the city, expect big crowds in terminals, long queues and time-consuming delays. For safety and convenience, many families choose to drive to the city for this year-ender event. We’ve gathered essential NYE information from the best locations for fireworks viewing to parking alternatives. Read on and make this your best NYE celebration yet.

Vantage Points

Brisbane NYE festivities is centered on the Brisbane River, making South Bank the key area of focus for viewing the NYE fireworks displays along the Brisbane River. While anywhere that can see the city skyline will be okay for viewing, we recommend that you find that perfect spot at the best vantage points for the night’s big event.

These vantage points are situated around the Brisbane River. The Clem Jones Promenade, for example, is riverwalk that spans the length of the South Bank Parklands with unobscured views of the Brisbane River. Whilst Mount Coot-tha will make it seem as though you’re watching the fireworks display on an eye-level. Food trucks, family-friendly movies and fun entertainment will be available for most of the venues.

Fireworks Show Schedule

8:30 PM – Kid’s Fireworks Show

12:00 AM – The Main Event

Brisbane made sure there will be something for everyone thus, two programs were made. A family and kid-friendly early celebration with their own fireworks show and the most-anticipated New Year’s Eve countdown. Both fireworks display will last 10 minutes.

Parking Spots

The City of Brisbane, South Park in particular, has a number of parking facilities around the area. This includes two parking facilities that are being managed by a third party parking company. These parking spaces differ in prices and operating times, so we’ve put up a comparison table for all options including the alternatives:

Brisbane’s own parking facilities are just a few minutes away from the vantage points. Though expensive, the proximity and convenience suggests a very long wait until the next parking space becomes available. To avoid this wait, many individuals will travel to the city early in the morning for the night’s event. Aside from the parking fees, it is also important to consider their operating hours as some close by midnight. Some facilities also impose expensive overstay fees after 1 AM.

There a few parking facilities that are less expensive than the others on offer such as Parkhound, a sharing platform that offers both affordable and convenient alternative parking solutions. You can choose from the list of carports, driveways and garages that are open 24hrs a day for short or long term parking schemes. Easily pre-book a guaranteed and low-cost parking space online. Parkhound joins people with spaces with those who seek a cost-effective and hassle-free parking solution. You can be part of this community marketplace, by listing your underutilised parking spaces at home and earn extra by the start of 2018.

To get the most out of the last day of the year, plan ahead. First check what activities you’d like to do and which venue to go to. Make sure you’ve packed everything you’ll need for that family picnic and a few extra shirts and towels too, just in case. If you’d like to eat out instead, make an early reservation at the restaurant you fancy. As early as a month from the event date, find the best car park spot and have it booked. Pre-booking online is usually cheaper. Check the weather on the event date. As soon as everything is complete, if possible, leave early.

Brisbane provides for a balance of family focused entertainment and an unforgettable New Years Eve experience. From pub promos, party club themes, fancy restaurant dinner offers, relaxing and laid back open-air picnics, to the fabulous fireworks display by midnight, the New Year’s Eve Countdown in Brisbane is really something you wouldn’t want to miss.
